Jake Paul has one goal in mind: becoming a world champion. His meteoric rise isn’t enough-he wants to dominate boxing just as Mike Tyson did in his prime. To achieve that, Paul is turning to the same technique that helped “Iron Mike” dismantle opponents in the 1990s.
Paul’s journey in professional boxing has been rapid. Just five years ago, he was a pioneer of “influencer boxing,” and today, he’s the most successful fighter from that era of content creators stepping into the ring.
Critics often argue that Paul has only fought influencers or past-their-prime athletes. But with an 11-1 record and a recent victory over Tyson himself, the “Problem Child” is proving his legitimacy-and now, he’s adding another weapon to his arsenal.
Jake’s secret to mental domination
Ahead of his fight against Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez Jr., Paul revealed one of his strategies for success: hypnosis. Just like Tyson early in his career, Paul is working with a hypnotist to sharpen his focus and mental edge.
Recently, hypnotist Marczell Klein shared footage of his session with Paul online. During the session, Klein told him, “Everything you’ve been through now, your current mindset, whatever limiting beliefs you have, everything you’ve been through, that’s your brain.”
Klein then added, “I’m taking your body and I’m putting a brand new brain. Like there’s like a new personalilty and it has nothing to do with, it’s just like a clean slate.” The session wasn’t just about resetting his mental game-it also involved precise instructions on how to optimize his performance in the ring.
A savage in the ring
Paul has worked with Klein for several years, and one of his hypnotic affirmations is particularly intense:
“We’re going to program you to be an absolute savage in the ring-no fear, never get tired. Then we’ll merge that identity with your current self, and I’ll give you something to activate it.”
Tyson famously underwent similar hypnosis sessions with therapist John Halpin, at the recommendation of his trainer Cus D’Amato. In his autobiography, Undisputed Truth, co-written with Larry Sloman, Tyson credited hypnosis as a factor in his rise to boxing greatness.
For Paul, the question remains: will it work as effectively against a former world champion, like Chávez Jr.-a fighter 10 years younger than Tyson? We’ll find out in two weeks.
