Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis fight suspended due to legal mess

The controversial fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis was scheduled for November 14 at the Kaseya Center in Miami has been officially canceled, as announced by Most Valuable Promotions, an event that was going to bring together two of the most media-friendly fighters in boxing today in an exhibition fight.

The expectation was enormous around the fight because Davis came in as the World Boxing Association (WBA) super lightweight world champion and with an undefeated record of 30-0-1 and 28 by KO. In front of him was a Jake Paul, always controversial and defiant, who was looking to continue adding important victories in his young career with a record of 12-1.

Why was the fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis canceled?

The promoter Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) confirmed the official cancellation of the event after Gervonta Davis was accused in a civil lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, which includes charges of aggravated assault, kidnapping and intentional infliction of emotional distress, which led the promoter to distance itself from the fighter and no longer continue with the show.

Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of Most Valuable Promotions, explained in a statement about the cancellation of the event and the plans for Jake Paul in 2025 in the ring:

While we will not be going ahead with this event, we are maintaining our plan for Jake Paul to headline a Netflix event in 2025. We will share details on the new date, venue and opponent as soon as they are confirmed

Gervonta Davis and his legal background that complicates his boxing future

The legal conflict involving Gervonta Davis and the cause of the fight against Jake Paul, adds to a series of previous problems outside the ring such as in 2023, when the boxer was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest and three years probation for a hit-and-run case in Baltimore. Also in August, a domestic violence complaint filed by the mother of his two children was dismissed.

Now, ‘Tank’s’ ex-girlfriend claims she was forcibly removed from the nightclub, Tootsie’s Cabaret, where she worked, and when the accusation became known, Jake Paul’s promoter stated that it “unequivocally condemns any form of violence” ending up making the decision to cancel the event and disassociate itself from Gervonta Davis.

With the confirmation of the canceled event, Jake Paul and Netflix are evaluating alternatives to have a fight before the end of the year and sources close to the YouTuber have confirmed that they have contacted fighters and his next opponent is between Ryan Garcia, Nate Diaz, Andre Ward, Terence Crawford and Francis Ngannou, however none have been officially confirmed by Paul or MVP.
