Jake Paul ticks all the boxes to be a legitimate professional: “He breathes like a boxer”

The debate over Jake Paul’s legitimacy as a professional boxer continues, with opinions divided among experts and figures in the sport. While former world champion Bernard Hopkins has demanded that Paul defeat opponents with “legitimacy” to be considered a true professional, former UFC fighter Darren Till strongly defends the former YouTuber’s case.

According to Till, despite his past as an influencer, Paul has shown that “he trains like a boxer, lives like a boxer and breathes like a boxer”, so he already has the legitimacy to earn a place in the sport.

Paul’s victories over boxing legends, albeit older ones, such as Mike Tyson (58) and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (39), have fueled the debate. However, his foray into the boxing world has been serious enough that there is talk of a possible fight with former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. While this fight would cement Paul’s credibility, it has also raised concerns among other pundits, such as British commentators Adam Catterall and Gareth A. Davies.

Questions about a possible fight

talkSPORT commentators Catterall and Davies have expressed serious concerns about the possibility of a fight between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua. Davies described Paul as a “British area level fighter” and called Joshua a “killer and a heavyweight with life”, arguing that the matchup “should not be sanctioned anywhere in the world”

Catterall agreed, calling the fight “dangerous” and warning that it “discredits the sport” due to the huge talent gap between an Olympic gold medallist and a former TV presenter.

Jake Paul’s controversial image

The current situation leaves Jake Paul at a crossroads. While he has racked up victories and has the backing of figures such as Darren Till, criticism about the quality of his opponents and the commercial motivation behind his fights continues

The potential fight with Anthony Joshua is a turning point that could prove whether Paul is really the “legitimate boxer” that some claim, or if he is simply a “marketing product” who has been able to capitalize on his fame.
