Jake Paul stirs the internet with a provocation that divides fans

Influencer and boxer Jake Paul is at it again. If there’s one thing he’s proven over the years, it’s that he loves trending and if it’s through controversy, even better. Instead of slowing down, each scandal seems to fuel him even more (like he’s strapped to a rocket) and keeps him at the center of attention.

With 18.7 million followers on TikTok and a career filled with scandals, Jake Paul knows how to make noise. And this week was no different: he uploaded a video promoting the energy drink Celsius, where he’s seen trying to knock down three cans placed on a goalpost. After hitting the target, he jumps to celebrate Cristiano Ronaldo style but wearing Lionel Messi’s jersey.

The scene, just a few seconds long, was enough to ignite a storm of comments. For many users, mixing Messi’s jersey with Cristiano’s celebration felt like an unnecessary provocation. Comments like “New Ronaldo with Messi’s jersey,” “Not even Judas went that far,” and “Wearing Messi’s jersey and saying he’s Ronaldo” flooded the video.

Messi + Ronaldo? A recipe for chaos

Interestingly, Cristiano’s fans were the loudest in the comment section, while Messi’s supporters were noticeably quiet. Some even suggested the video was fake and that Jake hadn’t really hit the cans. “Who the hell is pulling the cans?”, “Bluetooth connection,” and “The editor deserves the Ballon d’Or not Dembélé or Yamal,” were among the most viral replies.

Context matters: the Messi controversy isn’t new

This incident adds another chapter to a story that’s already got history. Earlier this year, Jake’s brother Logan Paul also stirred up controversy involving Lionel Messi, due to a legal clash between their beverage brands: Logan and KSI’s Prime and Messi’s Mas+. Logan accused Messi’s team of copying his product design, while Messi’s camp hit back with a lawsuit for unfair competition.

Logan even challenged Messi to a boxing match, but it was the Argentine star’s bodyguard, Yassine Cheuko, who responded saying Leo didn’t even know who he was.Logan, true to his style, responded with sarcasm and said he’d only fight if, after winning, Yassine agreed to drink Prime.

Jake and the formula that never fails

If one thing’s clear, it’s that the Paul brothers love playing with fire. And in one of the fiercest rivalries in sports Messi vs. Ronaldo, even the smallest spark can trigger a social media war. Jake Paul knows this well, and it’s exactly those kinds of provocations that keep him at the center of the digital conversation. Meanwhile, Messi remains focused on his career, unfazed by the noise just as he always has.

And if there’s one thing that never changes in Jake Paul’s career, it’s his unmatched talent for staying in the spotlight.
