Jake Paul stays true to his word and makes incredible gesture to Ben Askren, the boxer he once knocked out

When it was revealed that former MMA champion Ben Askren underwent a double lung transplant after surviving a dangerous bout of pneumonia, reports surfaced that Jake Paul had stepped in with a sizable $500,000 donation.

Now, Paul’s team has addressed the rumors – only adding new intrigue to the protracted saga surrounding Askren’s recovery.

Askren, 40, fell critically ill in June after contracting severe pneumonia and a staph infection. He was placed in a medically induced coma, put on a ventilator and ECMO support.

Ultimately, he was listed for a life-saving double lung transplant – an operation estimated to cost around $2 million – and sought help in fundraising for the amount.

His wife, Amy, kept fans informed about the intense medical journey, which included him “dying four times” and losing 50 pounds over 45 days.

Jake Paul’s private gesture speaks volumes

In the midst of this crisis, speculation began swirling that Jake Paul, who famously knocked out Askren in a 2021 boxing match, stepped in to help financially – reportedly donating $500,000 toward Askren’s transplant and recovery.

Paul had made it known that he intended to offer support, stating after his win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., “Say a prayer for Ben Askren and for his family … Me and Logan, we’re going to be donating some money.”

That promise seemed to turn into action. A report later emerged that Paul had indeed made the generous contribution – quietly and without publicity.

Nakisa Bidarian, a representative from Paul’s camp, later commented, “We just pray for Ben to get better. What Jake has done … is unbelievable at his age of 28. There’s no promoter like him.”

Paul’s business partner and fellow fighter Amanda Serrano echoed that sentiment in a post on X, writing, “Not once did he go public with this … To know him is to love him.”

Askren’s road back from the brink

After weeks of silence, Askren shared an emotional update on social media. He revealed that his heart had stopped four times – each for about 20 seconds. On June 24, he finally woke up after the transplant surgery.

He now weighs just 147 pounds, a weight he hadn’t seen since high school. While his physical state is still fragile, Askren remains determined to regain strength and return to coaching youth wrestling in Wisconsin.

The wrestling and MMA community rallied around Askren and his family during his ordeal. The financial support, encouragement, and prayers seem to have played a key role in his recovery, and Askren expressed heartfelt thanks to those who stood by him. “I got to have my own funeral,” he said of the outpouring of support, “and still live to talk about it.”

While Jake Paul has often embraced a brash, controversial public image, this unexpected act of generosity may prompt a reassessment. Though Paul has not confirmed the exact figure or timing, his actions reflect a rare blend of compassion and humility – especially in a world often driven by headlines and hype.

As Askren slowly returns to life and purpose, Paul’s behind-the-scenes support might become one of his most enduring legacies – proof that even a professional provocateur can have a heart.
