Jake Paul refuses to retire after Anthony Joshua knockout as insider predicts world title path

Jake Paul’s devastating knockout loss to Anthony Joshua may have ended his heavyweight ambitions for now, but it hasn’t closed the door on his boxing future. Despite being dropped four times and suffering a broken jaw in front of a massive Netflix audience, the YouTuber-turned-fighter is already being linked to a potential world title path, one that few expected after such a brutal defeat.

The fight in Miami drew an estimated 33 million viewers worldwide, underlining Paul’s unmatched commercial pull. While the result was one-sided, that same star power is precisely why some within boxing believe Paul could still maneuver himself into a shock championship opportunity down the line.

Jake Paul’s marketability keeps title talk alive

Former training partner David Adeleye believes Paul’s popularity could ultimately outweigh his shortcomings in the ring. Speaking on talkSPORT, Adeleye suggested that Paul’s next chapter doesn’t have to be linear – or conventional.

“I see him getting back in the ring in 2026 to prove a point,” Adeleye said. “At what level nobody knows. It depends on his motivation. If he stays grounded they may match him perfectly.”

David Adeyele

Adeleye went further, explaining how Paul’s name alone could open doors most fighters never see.

“I think he could end up worming his way into a world title shot if he beats people at regional level in America,” he added. “If he chooses certain fights and gets ranked top ten at cruiserweight, it could be a voluntary defense. If you’re a champion and there’s a lot of money on the table, why not?”

Importantly, Adeleye stopped short of calling Paul a future champion. “Getting a world title fight, I’m not saying he’s going to win it,” he said. “But 100 percent I think he could box for one. Beating the champion is a different ball game though.”

That distinction reflects the broader boxing consensus. Paul’s skills remain limited compared to elite fighters, but the sport’s business realities often blur the line between merit and market value.

Paul plans cruiserweight reset after Joshua KO

Paul, 28, made it clear immediately after the loss to Anthony Joshua that retirement is not on the table. Instead, he plans to reset at cruiserweight once his injuries heal.

“We’re going to heal the broken jaw, come back and fight people my weight and go for the cruiserweight world title,” Paul said. “I’m going to take a little break. I’ve been going hard for six years. I’m going to take some time off.”

Joshua, now 36, is expected to return in Saudi Arabia in 2026 as part of a potential buildup toward a long-rumored showdown with Tyson Fury. Meanwhile, Paul’s road back will be quieter, more calculated, and far less glamorous.

Still, boxing history has shown that rankings can be navigated, opportunities negotiated, and titles defended for the right price. If Paul rebuilds carefully at cruiserweight, his blend of fame and financial appeal could make the unthinkable possible: a world title fight that few believe he deserves, but many would still watch.

Whether he ever wins one is another matter entirely.
