All eyes were on AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Friday night as Jake Paul stepped into the ring to take on Mike Tyson in a blockbuster boxing card on Netflix.
In the end Paul came out on top via unanimous decision, but reports online suggest the real fireworks took place behind the scenes.
RadarOnline reports that Paul had planned to give Tyson a pigeon as a gift before their fight, but it actually caused a massive uproar behind the scenes.
Paul had brought the pigeon, Richard, in his car with him while on the way to the stadium, and then kept the bird in his locker room as the two righters prepared to head to the ring.
However, once Paul gave Tyson the pigeon, the 58-year-old stated that he would feed the small bird to his pet falcon. This prompted security to take the bird away from Iron Mike.
Paul didn’t know about this and became anxious, thinking that Tyson or a member of his team had stolen the bird. As a result he asked to see Richard after his victory, with security going on a scurried search in order to get to the bottom of the situation.
“Everyone wants an update on my new pigeon that Mike Tyson denied. Richard here is doing absolutely amazing, he’s thriving, and he’s having the best time. I can’t believe Mike Tyson let you go,” Paul told his followers on Instagram.
Paul cruised to victory
Although there was plenty of hype heading into Friday night’s fight, safe to say it didn’t live up to the bill.
Paul won by unanimous decision over Tyson, who was competing in his first sanctioned pro match in almost 20 years.
Nevertheless, Paul praised Tyson after the fight, telling the crowd: “Let’s give it up for Mike. He’s the greatest to ever do it. I look up to him. I’m inspired by him.”
The fight didn’t sit well with plenty of fans on X, with some claiming it was rigged in Paul’s favor.
“This was the moment Tyson realized he had to pull his punches or else he wasn’t going to get paid,” one fan wrote under a clip of Tyson clocking Paul on his chin.
Another wrote: “I don’t give a s— what anyone says. Someone got into Mike’s ear and told him not to kill Jake. Jake was gassed after round 2. Mike wasn’t breathing heavy.”
