Shortly after the exhibition fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta “Tank” Davis was made official, social media exploded with ridicule, memes and controversial statements. Paul, who has made a specialty of combining his boxing business with taunts against rival fighters, wasted no time in heating up the atmosphere surrounding the fight.
Gervonta has been disrespecting my name for too long. His nickname may be ‘Tank’, but I’m an FPV drone, and I’m about to take down the little guy
Although the fight is scheduled as an exhibition and the rules are still unknown, the physical disparity is obvious. Jake Paul is 1.85 m tall, has a 19 cm height advantage and 24 cm reach advantage over Gervonta Davis, a natural lightweight boxer.
Jake Paul begins to heat up the fight against Gervonta Davis with taunts
True to his style, the provocations from Jake Paul have not been long in coming and he has already dedicated several posts to Gervonta Davis. The YouTuber posted an edited image of ‘Tank’ next to a wedding cake, mocking his size and the phrase: “About the same size”.
He later included the songs “Straight to the bank” and “If I can’t” by 50 Cent to underline his confidence and that he is making millions again from an exhibition fight. Finally, he closed with a post of some handkerchiefs with the message: “Supplying these for my Twitter timeline right now”.
Weight difference, Netflix show and Jake Paul’s provocative style
The event will take place on November 14 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta and will be broadcast by Netflix, marking another foray into exhibition boxing for the streaming giant. Although Paul-owned promoter Most Valuable Promotions has not confirmed how many rounds the fight will be or whether there will be any weight penalties, a similar format to the one Jake used in his fight against Mike Tyson is expected, with big gloves and short rounds.
Jake Paul comes from a unanimous decision victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, and before that he tried to negotiate a fight with Anthony Joshua. Although that clash did not happen, Paul has left the door open: “First I’m going to kill David, then I’m going to slaughter Goliath,” he wrote, further fueling speculation that he will continue to face the best boxers.
