The aftermath of the fight between Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul lives on. The outcome of the fight, in which ‘The Problem Child’ was knocked out in the sixth round and ended up with a broken jaw, has led to even more criticism of Paul.
Derek Chisora, one of the big names in British heavyweight boxing, was blunt after what he saw in the ring. “This guy is not going to box anymore. After fracturing his jaw he is going to have PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). He has a broken jaw, twice, in two places,” he said on his visit to SunSport’s ‘Split Decision’ programme.
Chisora continued with his argument: “He’s not going to box anymore, he’s finished. Has anyone who has broken their jaw in a boxing match and come back? Real boxers come back, YouTubers don’t come back”.
Paul vs. Canelo on the horizon?
As a counterpoint, in the same space, fellow boxer Viddal Riley does believe that Jake Paul will step into the ring again for the sake of his company Most Valuable Promotions. “Jake has a lot of responsibilities to fulfill with all the boxers that are under his banner and part of that delivery is exposure. They can’t get that visibility if it’s not the protagonist doing some crazy stuff. Netflix put these events on because Jake is the protagonist.”
Riley even points to his next opponent: “And I think maybe two more fights, but maybe he needs to try to make the fight with Canelo in July next year.”
