Jake Paul insists Canelo is still on his wish list: “One of the biggest fights in boxing”

Jake Paul continues to generate controversy in the boxing world. The influencer-turned-professional pugilist has reiterated that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez remains one of his main targets

After the Mexican‘s shock defeat to Terence Crawford on September 13, Paul claimed that the fight between the two could be one of the biggest spectacles in the sport.

A fight that was close to happening

According to reports, the clash between Jake Paul and Canelo Alvarez was close to taking place in May this year. A pre-agreement was even signed, but the Mexican’s approach to the Riyadh season in Saudi Arabia changed the plans. Instead of facing Paul, Canelo fought William Scull, temporarily ruling out the fight with the American.

Paul’s plan: beat Gervonta Davis

Before he can resume talks with Canelo‘s team, Jake Paul will have to overcome an immediate challenge: an exhibition fight against the undefeated Gervonta “Tank” Davis on November 14 at the Kaseya Center in Miami. The fight is set at 195 pounds, well above Davis‘ usual weight, giving Paul a considerable physical advantage.

Canelo, on pause but not retired

After his defeat to Crawford, Canelo Alvarez is in a period of rest and reflection. Although he has confirmed that he has no plans to retire, he has yet to define his next move. Meanwhile, Jake Paul continues to publicly push for the fight to happen

After I beat this guy, Canelo is on the list for sure.

Is combat possible?

Although the fight between Jake Paul and Canelo Alvarez still seems far away, current circumstances could open a window of opportunity. With Paul racking up wins and Canelo in a transitional stage, the matchup could become a reality if both teams can reach an agreement. For Paul, it would be the biggest achievement of his career; for Canelo, an opportunity to prove that he is still a dominant figure in world boxing.
