Jake Paul hints he could return to boxing just three months after jaw surgery

Jake Paul has hinted at a rapid return to boxing, and the timing has raised eyebrows, as the social media star appears ready to step back into the ring just months after undergoing a second surgery to repair serious jaw damage. The 29-year-old suffered the injury in a high-profile bout against Anthony Joshua in December.

Paul was knocked down by a powerful right hand, he was left with multiple fractures that immediately cast doubt over his immediate future.

Following an initial operation, complications emerged, and he required a second procedure after the hardware used in his jaw began to loosen.

That setback only added to concerns about how soon he could safely resume training.

Despite that, Paul has now teased a major announcement, sharing footage of himself working on the pads, writing: “You won’t expect this one hahahaha – announcement coming in 2 days March 18th.”

Earlier indications suggested a longer recovery timeline, and his team had pointed toward a potential 2026 return, possibly at cruiserweight, especially after his last-minute switch to face a heavier opponent significantly altered expectations.

Paul had originally been preparing for a different matchup. However, circumstances changed, and stepping in against a former heavyweight champion presented a far greater challenge, ultimately resulting in a damaging defeat and serious injury.

A return later in the year remains uncertain, particularly given medical advice, and Paul acknowledged that recovery will dictate his timeline, especially as he works toward regaining full strength and stability in his jaw.

“Later this year. I got my second surgery recently,” Paul said, of his fight timeline ambitions. “So the doctors said like four, five, or six months to even be able to spar to see how the bone is healing.”

Even with that cautious outlook, speculation continues about possible opponents, and a rematch with Tommy Fury has resurfaced as an option, given their previous encounter resulted in Paul‘s only other professional defeat.

Paul resumes rivalry with Ngannou

Alongside comeback talk, tensions have escalated between Paul and Francis Ngannou, and their ongoing exchanges have intensified, especially as both fighters look to rebound from knockout losses suffered against Anthony Joshua.

Paul has been vocal about the possibility of facing Ngannou, and he suggested the fight could have already happened, pointing to earlier negotiations that failed to materialize before his eventual clash with Joshua.

“I’m down, I’ve always been down,” Paul said. “You were the option before Anthony Joshua, and you ran like a duck.

“I bet you didn’t think I would last longer than you did with Anthony either. You know you get worked in boxing. I would love to see us fight someday.”

The remarks added fuel to an already tense dynamic, and they quickly prompted a response from Ngannou, who did not hold back in his reaction.

“You were just being a small boy,” Ngannou said, in reply.

“Not understanding, being a little disrespectful, and that’s why I want to kick your a*s now. I really didn’t want to fight you, but now I want to beat you – so there’s a difference.

“Let’s do it. That’s why I stand by the statement that I want to beat you up.”
