As a pure boxer, Jake Paul hasn’t made it easy for fans of the sport to take him seriously. Aside from the out-of-ring theatrics, Paul simply hasn’t chosen serious opponents throughout his “professional” career, aside from Tommy Fury – who gave him his only loss. That hasn’t changed as he gets ready to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Whatever happens in the fight this Saturday, Paul won’t have made many new fans, and a win wouldn’t be considered anything impressive. Paul is in a lose-lose situation, but he’s set to make tons of money regardless. In the end, that’s all Paul really cares about, which doesn’t sit well with most boxing fans.
Jake Paul cuts Piers Morgan interview short in fit of rage
Two days before the bout between Paul and Chavez Jr., the two boxers were interviewed by Piers Morgan, who had spoken with Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford a week before. Morgan didn’t stray from questioning Paul’s boxing merits, which Paul didn’t necessarily take kindly.
In fact, Paul ended up spending less time on the show than Chavez Jr., who was on right before him. Shortly after calling Morgan a “fat-ass“, the host responded by saying Paul would be in danger against a real boxer. Paul then abruptly left the interview after delivering one final message for the host.
“I think the problem here, Piers, is that you think your opinion matters. [Morgan then asks Paul why he’s on his show]. I’m just taking your audience to sell pay-per-views. I don’t give a f**k about your show, you dumba**. This is a f***ing business enterprise.“
Paul then cuts a promo before leaving. Morgan laughs it off and then implores Chavez Jr. to knock him out. It seems Paul’s feathers were a bit ruffled heading into the weekend. We’ll see if it affects him in any way.
