The former-UFC star Nate Diaz was enjoying a Valentine’s Day getaway with his girlfriend, Misty Brown, in Paris, however, the trip wasn’t as peaceful as it seemed, thanks to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul who “gate crashed” the vacation.
Paul, known for his erratic, entertaining and trash-talking personality, once again couldn’t pass up the chance to make his presence known as he resumed his rivalry with the MMA star, whom he beat by unanimous decision in 2023.
His motivation? To remind Diaz about the significant financial success from their boxing match at the American Airlines Center, although it was to gloat about how much money he actually made on the night compared to his foe.
Despite criticism for fighting opponents past their prime, Jake Paul‘s financial success in boxing is undeniable. His match with Nate Diaz, which was Diaz‘s first professional boxing event, was a massive pay-per-view draw.
Both fighters walked away with hefty paychecks. While Diaz earned somewhere around half a million dollars for his participation, Paul took home a significantly larger sum, estimated to be approximately $10 million.
“I paid for this trip,” Paul commented on an Instagram post showing Diaz and Brown in Paris, joking that he’s actually the reason why the ex-UFC star doesn’t have to check his bank account these days, as well as subtly suggesting he’s a bigger name in sports.
Diaz snubs KSI: What is his future?
While Nate Diaz has made his name in the UFC, Paul‘s match with him was a significant step into the world of boxing. But will Diaz return to the ring?
It appears he’s not too eager to take on more YouTubers. Recently, KSI, one of the biggest YouTubers in the UK who has also ventured into boxing, expressed his desire to face Diaz in the ring. However, he was denied.
“We reached out to so many other fighters,” KSI told Ariel Helwani. “My team reached out to Nate Diaz because we wanted to show the world that, ‘OK, Jake (Paul) beat Nate Diaz in the way that he beat him. Let me show what I can do.
“Tommy Fury shouldn’t have won. I showed the levels. I showed that I was better than Jake, and I wanted to do it again with the Nate Diaz fight. I wanted to fully knock him out and then he said no.”
It seems Nate Diaz’s foray into boxing may be a one-time affair for now, as the former UFC star enjoys his post-fight life with Misty in Paris.
