While Jake Paul has made plenty of enemies during his time as a boxer, few could have predicted that he would get himself involved in an online feud with Lance Armstrong.
It all began a few days ago when Paul’s girlfriend, speed skater Jutta Leerdam, posted a few pictures and videos of her and Jake out cycling.
One of the clips shows Paul struggling to keep up with Leerdam while on two wheels. Despite that, Paul couldn’t help himself in challenging Armstrong.
“Lance Armstrong, I am coming,” Paul yelled while on the bike and with Leerdam recording. Whether he was serious or not, Paul tagged Armstrong and then added the caption: “@lancearmstrong 1v1 me.”
While observers likely saw it as a harmless jab from the boxer, nobody could have predicted that Armstrong himself would respond, and with a fiery response at that.
“Child, please. You’ve been looking for an a** whooping’. You found your place,” he wrote, seemingly turning up the dial on the feud instantaneously.
Never one to hold back, Paul responded in his typical cocky style: “Somebody tell him how many guys I beat.”
Back and forth continued after that
While many would have thought the back and forth would have ended there, Armstrong continued with his own fiery response.
“You name the time and place, punk. Me and my ball will be there,” he wrote in his Instagram Stories, referencing his infamous battle with cancer.
He isn’t the only former great to take exception with Paul, as boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. recently told Boxing Scene that he would be able to handle the youngster in the boxing ring.
“I’d beat him. I’m sure,” Jones said.”The only thing different though is he will probably have to take me out because I’m coming to knock him out. I’m going to get him, or he’s going to get me.”
Although Jones acknowledged that Paul can handle himself in the ring, he believes he could handle the 27-year-old despite being 55.
“It would be very difficult to pick him apart because he is so powerful and big,” Jones stated.
“He has power and is a dangerous puncher. I would beat him, I’m sure, but you would have to be on your A-game all night, especially at my age.”
