Jake Paul can avoid being humilliated in the ring again if he faces any of these three rivals

Jake Paul’s latest venture into the boxing ring ended in harsh fashion, and the fallout from his knockout loss to former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has forced a serious pause in his career.

The 28-year-old was brutally stopped last weekend, suffering a double jaw fracture that required surgery and left him facing a mandatory 60-day suspension from the Florida Athletic Commission. With months of recovery ahead and his future in question, Paul now has time to reassess whether continuing in boxing makes sense and, if so, who he could realistically face next.

The defeat to Joshua was a stark reminder of the gap between Paul and elite professional fighters. After years of carefully curated matchups, stepping in with a proven heavyweight champion proved to be a step too far. Even Joshua, while praising Paul‘s willingness to compete, made it clear that a return to the ring should involve opponents closer to Paul‘s natural weight class and experience level.

A former champion could be a good option

One potential opponent is Gervonta “Tank” Davis, a name Joshua himself floated after the fight. A matchup with Davis would require Paul to drop significantly in weight, but it would at least place him against a fighter whose size is closer to his own. The irony is that Davis was originally lined up as a possible opponent for Paul before the Joshua bout was finalized, though that plan collapsed amid serious off-the-ring allegations involving Davis.

From a competitive standpoint, the fight would still be a massive challenge for Paul, as Davis is one of the most explosive and technically refined fighters in the sport. Another long-discussed option is Ryan Garcia, whose rivalry with Paul dates back years. Both men are social media stars with massive followings, and a fight between them would be easy to market.

Garcia, however, is a legitimate professional boxer with speed and power that would again test Paul in ways he has struggled with against higher-level competition. Still, compared to Joshua, this matchup would at least keep Paul within a more realistic competitive range and revive a feud fans have speculated about for some time.

A former rival is the best option

The most logical return bout remains a rematch with Tommy Fury. Fury handed Paul his first professional loss in February 2023 via split decision, and the result has lingered over Paul‘s boxing narrative ever since. The two have continued to trade insults online, and a second fight would give Paul a chance to address the only loss on his record prior to the Joshua defeat.

Of all the options, Fury represents the clearest path to credibility, as the fighters are similar in size and experience, and the story already resonates with fans. For now, Paul‘s immediate focus must be on healing and deciding whether he should continue in a sport that has increasingly exposed his limitations.

The loss to Joshua was not just a defeat, but a warning. If Paul chooses to return, his next opponent will say a lot about whether he is serious about competing at a sustainable level or simply chasing spectacle in a sport that has shown little mercy.
