Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis bet $2 million on their own fight: Can boxers bet on themselves?

In the world of boxing, betting and spectacle have always gone hand in hand. The biggest fights always bring with them the biggest bets. Now, with the eagerly awaited showdown between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis scheduled for November 14, both have turned up the heat by agreeing to a personal $2 million bet on the outcome.

The Big Short

Jake Paul’s bet with Davis arose spontaneously during the press conference. In the middle of the event, popular KICK streamer Adin Ross tried to challenge Davis to a $250,000 bet, but the Baltimore boxer was not satisfied.

Davis responded with a counter-offer of $500,000, which Ross rejected. “Jake, they’re going to make $50 million on Netflix for this, I can’t do it. You split the bet with me: 250, 250,” Ross said, seeking Paul’s support.

Paul, far from reducing the figure, decided to take it to the next level, proposing $1 million. Davis did not hesitate and immediately doubled it. “Two million? Let’s do it!” Paul replied without hesitation, sealing the deal with a handshake. Despite the reaction from the audience, Davis kept his cool and downplayed the risk with a simple, confident phrase: “Easy work, brother.”

Can boxers bet on themselves?

The bet between Paul and Davis has raised a big question: is this legal? The reality is that the rules on betting in combat sports are complex. What is completely prohibited and considered a felony is for a boxer to bet against himself, as this would be considered fight fixing.

However, betting on oneself is in a legal vacuum and has restrictions according to the specific fight and the agreed rules, so Paul and Davis should not have problems with this, beyond whether it is ethical or not for the rest.
