Jake Ferguson’s role in question as Cowboys trade buzz circles David Njoku

The Cowboys have already made headlines this offseason with a series of aggressive trades, most notably the acquisition of wide receiver George Pickens from Pittsburgh. That deal turned Dallas’ passing attack into something that should keep NFC defensive coordinators up at night-especially when you factor in CeeDee Lamb andDak Prescott.

But even with those pieces in place and training camp drawing closer, there’s still chatter about one more potential splash.

This time, the rumor mill has turned toward Cleveland-specifically toward tight end David Njoku, who might be available as the Browns shift into rebuild mode. The buzz started when Anthony Palacios of Last Word On Sports floated the idea of Dallas as a landing spot, especially now that Cleveland has drafted rookie Harold Fannin and may be looking to get younger across the board.

Could Njoku Be the Final Piece in Dallas’ Offense?

With the Cowboys offense already overloaded with talent, adding a veteran TE could tip the balance-or clog it.

Njoku is entering the final year of his contract and coming off a strong 2023 season (81 catches, 881 yards, 6 touchdowns). That kind of production has plenty of value, but it also means the Browns might want to cash out before free agency hits.

The Cowboys aren’t exactly tight end-needy, but there’s been some concern about Jake Ferguson’s uneven performance last year. Injuries, both to himself and Prescott, played a role, but there’s no question his numbers dipped. Behind him, Luke Schoonmaker has potential, but remains unproven.

Still, making a move for Njoku would cost draft capital-something Dallas might not be too eager to part with after the Pickens deal. Plus, adding another high-volume pass-catcher might create more problems than it solves in Brian Schottenheimer’s new-look offense.

At this point, it’s just speculation. But if Njoku becomes available, don’t be surprised if Dallas picks up the phone. They’ve already shown they’re not shy about pulling the trigger when the right opportunity comes along.
