Jai Opetaia continues to establish himself as one of the most feared boxers in the cruiserweight category, as in his third fight of 2025 he defeated Huseyin Cinkara by knockout in the eighth round at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

From the first rounds of the fight, Cinkara surprised with a powerful right hand that caused a cut on the Australian champion’s right eye, but Opetaia responded forcefully and controlled the following rounds with his powerful punching.

Despite his victory, the Australian champion mentioned that he must improve some technical aspects and have greater mobility for future fights:

The fight was hard, it was terrible. I made a lot of mistakes and I needed this to be more humble

What is the health status of Huseyin Cinkara after Jai Opetaia’s KO?

The end of the fight came with a devastating left hook from Opetaia that landed flush on Cinkara and sent him crashing against the ropes and then the canvas, where he remained unconscious for several minutes, causing concern among all those present and he was immediately taken to hospital for specialist care.

Medical examinations confirmed a concussion with a small bleed and a minor fracture of the C1 vertebra, the bone that connects the skull to the spine. Fran Bradford, from the organising team Tasman Fighters, explained that “he does not require surgery, but does require two days of observation” so he will be in recovery for the next few days awaiting medical discharge and hoping that the blow has not caused other problems in the future.

Jai Opetaia’s future and title unification pursuit

Despite the emphatic nature of his victory, Opetaia is already thinking about his future in the ring and the unification of the cruiserweight championships:

We want the unification fights. We want Ramirez. I’ve been asking for them for a long time. Stay tuned

The impressive KO of Cinkara is already considered one of the most shocking and devastating of the year, which has reaffirmed Opetaia as one of the most feared cruiserweight boxers for his powerful punching, physical strength and ambition for more victories and to dominate his category.

Cinkara is now recovering from the shocking blow, receiving messages of support from the boxing community who were concerned when the knockout took place and the state in which he left the arena to be treated immediately and thus avoid a tragedy.
