The younger brother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has made a loving post for Larry ‘Randy’ Martin, who unfortunately died on Wednesday, February 12 as Jackson fondly remembers his maternal grandfather.
The ageing man had been in and out of hospital throughout the 2024/25 NFL season, including a recent trip to receive medical attention in January before it was revealed he transitioned to end-of-life care in a hospice.
He finally passed away just before Valentine’s Day and now the family comes together to mourn the figure, as Randi embraces her sons and grandchildren to warmly remember her dad and Patrick’s 24-year-old brother made a sweet post online.
“Love you papa,” Jackson wrote via Instagram, with a photo of Martin in white shoes, blue shorts and a white t-shirt whilst the then-youngster wore an all-red sports outfit with white socks as the pair danced together.
Randi announced the news online to update fans after they had sent in prayers for his health and continued to try to support the 49-year-old through the situation of ill health her father was trying to fight through.
“Hard to find the words of holding my fathers hand as he goes to Heaven,” Randi said via Instagram on Friday. “I know he’s in a better place.
“I love you daddy. Well done, good and faithful servant! Matthew 25:23.”

Randi also lost her mother, Debbie, in April 2023 at the age of 73, shortly after watching Patrick claim his second Super Bowl ring.
And she revealed that part of her dad’s final wishes was to watch his grandson compete on the NFL field one last time as the Chiefs took on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on February 9, something he accomplished.
Although Mahomes lost the game 40-22 on the night, he still produced three touchdowns and 257 yards including an impressive throw to Xavier Worthy to score.
“I know that it has meant a lot to him,” Randi said, via PEOPLE. “And I think he’s hanging on because he wants to see his grandson do an amazing thing or just let him play.
“I mean, he must be such a proud grandpa, so proud.”
