It’s not just Micah Parsons – The Dallas Cowboys are in trouble with another Pro Bowler

Last season, the Dallas Cowboys reached deals with two players-arguably the two most important on offense: Dak Prescott, who became the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history, and CeeDee Lamb, who also received an impressive four-year, $136 million contract.

The deal for CeeDee Lamb was fair-he deserved it, as one of the best receivers in the NFL-while Dak Prescott’s contract is harder to evaluate. Still, the Cowboys had no other option but to extend their quarterback, whose current contract pays him $60 million per year.

Now, the Dallas Cowboys are entangled in a dispute with the team’s best overall player: defensive star Micah Parsons, who is seeking to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. That means he wants to surpass the $40.25 million per year deal signed by Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase.

It’s not just Micah Parsons – Tyler Smith is also an issue

The Cowboys also have another problem beyond Micah Parsons: offensive lineman Tyler Smith, a two-time Pro Bowler. Smith was drafted by Dallas in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft and has developed into one of the best at his position, which is why the team must lock him up.

Rohan Chakravarthi from Blogging the Boys provided an analysis of what a potential new deal between Tyler Smith and the Cowboys might look like-something that appears complicated for the team’s front office.

“With the guard market expanding so rapidly and teams locking up players early, four-year extensions seem to be the standard at the position,” Chakravarthi wrote.

Chakravarthi projected that Tyler Smith could receive a four-year, $85 million extension with $53 million guaranteed, which would further complicate things for Dallas. Reaching that agreement won’t be easy.

The Dallas Cowboys are dealing with a lot: now the contract situations with Micah Parsons and Tyler Smith. But the biggest issue may be that from a competitive standpoint, the team doesn’t seem ready to truly compete with the Eagles and Commanders in the NFC East.
