Just over a week ago, everything was happiness for the New York Giants. They had defeated the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football with a great performance by Jaxson Dart, and the fans’ excitement was at its peak. A week later, it seemed that happiness could continue, but a collapse in the final quarter hit the team hard.
In the Week 7 matchup, the Giants were surprising everyone again, dominating the Denver Broncos, a strong contender in the AFC. When they entered the final quarter, they were leading 19-0. However, the game ended in a loss with a 32-yard field goal by Will Lutz with no time left on the clock.
In the final quarter, Jaxson Dart threw a critical interception when the Giants were leading 26-16. The Broncos came back, and even though the Giants later led 32-30, a missed extra point opened the door for the Broncos again, who seized the opportunity and won the game.
Jaylen Waddle won’t be joining the New York Giants, it seems
There’s no doubt that Brian Daboll is on the line as head coach and Joe Schoen as general manager. After the victory against the Philadelphia Eagles, it seemed the Giants would have a chance to compete and surprise in the NFC East, but for that, the team needs to invest in the wide receiver corps.
The injury to Malik Nabers (ACL) hit the team hard, as he will be out for the entire year. This led to speculation about potential additions to the team: one is Chris Olave from the New Orleans Saints, and the other is Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins, which excited Giants fans.
There’s no doubt that Waddle, a product of Alabama, is a very talented receiver, especially known for his speed. However, prior to the Giants’ game, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Miami Dolphins are not interested in letting their receiver go.
Although with the Dolphins’ loss to the Cleveland Browns, perhaps Waddle would want to join a team with a chance to compete in 2025. Those chances decrease even further with the Giants’ loss to the Broncos; New York is very close to being out of contention this season.
