With three strong performances, the New York Giants finished the NFL preseason undefeated, after defeating the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, and New England Patriots. In all of these games, they scored over 30 points, which has generated huge excitement among fans.
Although the preseason has little to do with what the regular season will be like, and the New York Giants-with the toughest schedule-are projected to be one of the three teams with the worst record by the end of the season unless a surprise occurs, the outlook is challenging for Brian Daboll’s squad.
To start the season, the New York Giants will face two road games against the Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys, while their first two home games will be against the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers. This makes 2025 a very tough year for the Giants.
Brian Daboll is not ready to announce the backup quarterback
Since the last Draft, Brian Daboll announced that his starting quarterback for this season will be Russell Wilson. However, if the veteran quarterback struggles or declines, Daboll would not hesitate to put in another quarterback-but here comes the big problem.
The Giants selected Jaxson Dart in the first round of the Draft, and before the preseason started, he was placed as QB3. But after strong performances, he has already made Daboll question who will be QB2: the rookie or Jameis Winston.
“These guys will be competing here, but Russ is our starter,” Daboll said about Winston and Dart. With the preseason over, he was asked who will be the backup quarterback and simply responded, “We’ll see.”
Despite what Daboll says, Jaxson Dart should be the backup, and at some point, he will have to be put on the field. Depending on the success of the rookie, Brian Daboll may remain as head coach and Joe Schoen as general manager. Both currently have limited credibility, and their time in their positions could be running out.
