The Eagles dodged a significant bullet on Monday after an MRI revealed that three-time Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee approximately two hours into Sunday night’s opener.
Dickerson will undergo “minor” surgery for the injury and will be week-to-week with an eye toward returning for the season opener against Dallas on September 4. News of the procedure was first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. Exactly when he will return is unknown.
Jeff Stoutland’s changes if Dickerson’s situation worsens
If Dickerson’s absence continues, Stoutland likely would have considered getting his five best available options on the field. RG Tyler Steen would move to Dickerson’s LG position, and Matt Pryor would be slotted in at that position. A more conservative approach is likely to be implemented starting with the next practice.
Versatile veteran Brett Toth and second-year player Trevor Keegan, who has been cross-training at center during camp, will almost certainly receive the bulk of the reps in place of Dickerson, while Pryor and Darian Kinnard remain the primary backups on the right side.
