For many Internet users, the president of the United States Donald Trump has remained throughout 2026 and much of 2025 in the daily conversation on issues of security, drug trafficking and even sports with the 2026 World Cup, where the United States is the main host of the biggest sporting event of the year.

With the operation in Venezuela, where the term of former President Nicolas Maduro ended, Trump has not stopped making comments that have been interpreted by many Internet users as a warning to the neighboring country, Mexico, about its serious drug problem and that, if it does not do something about it, the United States would have to intervene within the country.

In response to these words, many users on social networks are calling for the 2026 World Cup to be taken away from the United States because of the acts committed in Venezuela and the words that insinuate a possible intervention in the Mexican country.

Threats to Mexico: Donald Trump hints at intervention in Mexican territory

Donald Trump, in a recent interview with Fox News, commented on the growing problem of drug trafficking in Mexico and that the US government would plan to combat drug trafficking forces on Mexican soil before they continue to spread across North America.

We have stopped 97% of the drugs coming in by water and now we are going to start attacking by land from now on

In terms of the cartels, the cartels are running Mexico. It’s very, very sad to see what’s happened to that country, but the cartels are running it and they kill 250,000 350,000 people in our country every year.

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has repeatedly reiterated the extensive collaboration that exists between the nations on security and combating organized crime, but that in no way will the option of allowing the Donald Trump government to intervene in Mexican territory be accepted.

Would FIFA seek to take the 2026 World Cup away from the United States?

The answer to the question at the moment is NO, FIFA has not given any statement regarding any change in the World Cup to be held in Mexico, Canada and the United States. However, users around the world on different social networks have expressed their discontent with the actions and words of President Donald Trump, in which they ask FIFA to reconsider the venue of the World Cup, which is getting closer and closer.

The conversation around the president on social media is developing at the same time as users comment on FIFA’s stance on the war between Ukraine and Russia, where there is an armed conflict and one country invades the other for its resources. Internet users mention that the United States is doing the same and has not received a sanction equal to or greater than Russia by FIFA, an organization that left out of any competition the country led by Vladimir Putin.
