Is Steph Curry ready? Shootaround surprise sends fans wild

Golden State Warriors fans were left buzzing with excitement and concern as Stephen Curry made a surprising appearance at the team’s shootaround on May 8, despite ongoing worries about his strained left hamstring. The two-time MVP, sidelined since injuring his hamstring in Game 1 of the Warriors’ second-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, wasn’t expected to participate. His presence on the court, even in a limited capacity, sent NBA fans into a frenzy on social media.

Curry suffered the mild hamstring strain during the Warriors’ 99-88 Game 1 win on May 6, managing just 13 points in 13 minutes before exiting. An MRI confirmed the injury, and the team announced he’d miss at least a week, targeting a potential return for Game 5 on May 14.

Yet, seeing Curry at shootaround, taking light shots and moving cautiously, sparked hope among Warriors faithful. “Steph’s out here shooting already? This man’s built different,” one fan posted on X, capturing the sentiment of many.

The Warriors, who lead the series 1-0, have leaned on players like Buddy Hield, who dropped 22 points in Game 7 against the Rockets in the first round. But Curry’s absence looms large, given his 24-point playoff average against Houston and his career 104-51 playoff record with Golden State. Coach Steve Kerr, speaking after the session, remained cautious but optimistic. “He’s doing better, but we’re not taking any chances,” Kerr said, noting Curry’s limited activity was more about morale than a full return.

Warriors fans hope for early comeback

Fans, however, couldn’t contain their emotions. “I’m overwhelmed-Steph at shootaround gives me hope, but I’m scared he’ll rush back,” another X user shared. Curry’s history of resilience, including playing through ankle injuries in past playoffs, fuels the optimism, but his lack of prior hamstring issues adds uncertainty.

The Warriors’ depth has kept them afloat, with a 9-3 playoff record without Curry since 2013, yet his leadership and 38.7% three-point shooting are irreplaceable.

Game 2, set for tonight in Minneapolis, will test Golden State’s mettle without their star. Curry’s shootaround appearance, while not a guarantee of an early return, shows his determination to support his team. Social media continues to light up with reactions, from GIFs of Curry’s iconic shimmy to debates about his recovery timeline. As the Warriors navigate this series, all eyes remain on their sharpshooting leader.
