Long before she became one of the Indiana Fever‘s most physical and outspoken players, Sophie Cunningham was growing up immersed in professional wrestling.
Now, that influence is resurfacing in a way that has fans wondering whether her career path might eventually stretch beyond the hardwood.
On a recent episode of her Show Me Something podcast, Cunningham reflected on how deeply WWE shaped her childhood and, in many ways, her personality. What started as nostalgia quickly turned into something more revealing when she admitted that the wrestling world has already reached out to her.
“I grew up on that s**t, WWE baby,” Cunningham said on the podcast. “I used to be a big fan. Me and Lindsey used to wrestle all the time, and our parents would have to call it. Kane, Hulk. Oh my God. I used to watch Hulk all the time. John Cena was just the absolute best, man. They [WWE] actually asked me to do it. Maybe after I retire or offseason, maybe us two will be the new WWE duo.”
Why Cunningham’s style fits the wrestling mold
Anyone familiar with Cunningham‘s game can see why WWE would take notice. She does not shy away from physicality, confrontation, or emotional moments, and those traits have placed her in the middle of some of the league’s most talked-about incidents.
One of those moments came during a heated contest that spiraled after Caitlin Clark was poked in the eye during an earlier exchange involving Marina Mabrey. As tensions built, Jacy Sheldon tried to finish a fast break, only to be met by Cunningham, who sent her to the floor and ignited a full-on altercation.
Lindsey Allen stepped in as the scene escalated, shoving Cunningham back toward the baseline crowd while players and officials rushed to intervene. In the chaos, Cunningham grabbed Sheldon‘s hair before the situation was finally broken up.
Earlier this year, that interest became more than speculation when Jeanie Buss, a co-owner of WOW Women of Wrestling, publicly extended an invitation.
“We would love to have @SophieCunning5 join us at @wowsuperheroes she is talented, dedicated and a fierce competitor!!” Buss wrote on X.
