Is Odell Beckham Jr. retiring? All you need to know

As the 2025/26 NFL season approaches, questions surrounding Odell Beckham Jr.‘s future continue to mount. Now without a team less than 100 days before kick-off, there is increased speculation that his playing career may be over. So, what do we know?

The 32-year-old has not yet formally called time on his playing career. However, several indicators point toward the possibility that he may be stepping away from the game, either voluntarily or due to lack of opportunity.

And the most compelling signs come not from press conferences or sports media, but from Beckham‘s own social media, where he seems to have had a marked shift in priorities.

The Super Bowl champion has recently dialled in on fatherhood and his Instagram feed showcases time spent with his son, from family skiing trips to soccer games.

He even refers to his son as his “biggest accomplishment”, a big statement considering his role in the Los Angeles Rams‘ triumph back in 2021. Yet whilst the content is heartening, the absence of football is striking for a player who once commanded the league’s attention.

But right now, there is no official news explaining that Beckham Jr. is retiring from the sport. He simply remains a free agent. Whether this will change in coming weeks remains to be seen, but for now we can presume he’s only examining options.

Fans react to the rumors

Despite his high-profile name and once-elite talent, Beckham has struggled to maintain consistency in recent years. His last significant on-field contributions came several seasons ago in that Super Bowl win back in 2022.

Additionally, his recent stint with the Miami Dolphins did little to revitalize his career as he recorded just nine receptions for 55 yards before being released in December. That’s despite Tyreek Hill struggling too.

After a decade in the league, time may be running out for the wide receiver to secure a spot on a roster and it could be the writing on the wall for a man with three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances and the 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

He also made 575 receptions, 7,987 receiving yards, and 59 touchdowns, including the Super Bowl ring in which he famously suffered a torn ACL during that championship game.

Fans will also remember ‘the catch’ he made for the New York Giants, falling backwards under pressure, against the Dallas Cowboys. He brought the ball in one-handed for a touchdown.

One user commented on X.com, ,formerly Twitter, “Crazy 32 is a retirement age but it’s what happens when you encounter lots of injuries.”

A second said, “Wow ROTY AND 3 whole pro bowls. what a ride its been….”

And a third commented, “Stay in shape, and sign with someone second half of the season.”
