The bout boxing fans have been waiting for is set to become a reality. Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather will clash in just a couple of months at a venue yet to be determined, though sources suggest it will most likely take place in Africa.
Plans for the fight between the legendary boxers have been in motion since at least September 2025, when both rivals confirmed the bout separately.
For a time, the lack of updates led fans and media to believe the fight had stalled. That changed in December, when Tyson confirmed they were scouting venues in Africa.
Speculation about a potential June fight between Mayweather and kickboxing champion Mike Zambidis briefly cast doubt on the Tyson matchup. However, insider Mike Coppinger has now reported that the Tyson-Mayweather fight has officially been given the green light.
Tyson and Mayweather to face off in April
“The Mike Tyson vs. Floyd Mayweather exhibition is tentatively set for April 25 in the Congo, sources have told @MikeCoppinger,” posted Inside Ring Show on X (formerly Twitter).
The report aligns with Tyson’s recent comments to TMZ: “Yeah, it’s happening. Sh*t, yeah, it’s happening,” the former heavyweight champion said.
You think I’d give that up?! I was minding my own business-he challenged me,” Tyson recalled. “We’re going to party afterward, baby! We’ll have a ball afterward.
Not everyone shares Tyson’s enthusiasm, however.
Concerns over Tyson’s health
The November 15 fight against Jake Paul highlighted one uncomfortable truth: “Iron Mike” is far from his prime. At 59, Tyson looked like a shadow of his former self against an opponent who would never have lasted a round against him at his peak.
After the fight, Tyson admitted he “almost died” during training. Now, facing an opponent 11 years younger with one of the sharpest techniques in boxing history, some fear the outcome could be dangerous.
