Is LeBron James retiring? The King addresses rumors about his NBA future

Amid growing speculation, LeBron James has decided to break his silence. During his appearance on 360 With Speedy, the Lakers star directly addressed the retirement rumors, making it clear that while the end is on the horizon, it hasn’t arrived yet. “I’m on the other side of the hump, that’s for sure,” he admitted. “I’m not going to play another 23 years, or even another ten. I’m preparing for the end, but I’m not there yet.”

These statements come at a key moment: James is about to begin his 23rd NBA season, a symbolic number that matches the jersey he’s worn for much of his career. Despite his growing interests off the court – such as golf, yoga, and philanthropy – LeBron was emphatic: “Every time I start something new, it doesn’t mean I’m retiring… Retirement is coming, but it’s not here yet.”

LeBron James and his strength in the NBA

At 40, LeBron continues to show that his competitive level is far from declining. Last season, he averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game, with an impressive 51.3% field goal percentage.

His performance keeps him among the league’s most influential players, and his leadership on the Lakers will be key in this new phase for the team, which now includes stars like Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

Additionally, his contract with the Lakers expires next summer, giving him the freedom to decide how and when to end his legendary career. But for now, LeBron remains committed to the team and to his goal of winning another championship.

LeBron and his big dream

One of the most powerful reasons for LeBron to continue in the NBA is his desire to share the court with his sons. He’s already made history by playing alongside Bronny James, becoming the league’s first father-son duo.

But the dream doesn’t end there: his younger son, Bryce, will be eligible for the draft in 2026. If LeBron stays active for two more seasons, he could achieve something never seen before in professional sports.

LeBron James isn’t leaving just yet

LeBron James knows retirement is near, but he also knows he still has a lot to offer. As long as his body responds and his passion for the game stays alive, he’ll keep wearing the Lakers uniform. And while the end is inevitable, it’s clear that LeBron wants to write that final chapter on his own terms.

Do you think he’ll manage to play with Bryce too? Or will he say goodbye after this season?
