Is Kevin Durant retiring? Houston Rockets star responds to speculation

Kevin Durant’s name has once again become the center of NBA chatter, but this time it’s not just for his scoring. In a light-hearted interaction with fans during a live stream on February 20, the Houston Rockets star set off a wave of retirement speculation amid growing social media drama involving alleged burner accounts.

Durant, now 37 and in his 18th season, was joking around with followers when a question about his future in the league sparked the conversation. After mishearing a fan’s query about how many more years he plans to play, Durant started chanting “one more year” jokingly, but that brief moment was enough to ignite rumors.

Social media users quickly interpreted the comment as a hint at the twilight of his career, even though his performance remains far from diminished.

During the same live stream, Durant also discussed his viral CeraVe commercial, revealing why he agreed to the deal.

“I got paid $2 million for two hours of work… what am I gonna say, no?” he laughed, highlighting his awareness of off-court opportunities while continuing to focus on basketball.

The lighthearted nature of the session contrasted with the intensity of speculation that followed, showing how easily social media can amplify a seemingly casual comment.

On the basketball court, Durant‘s numbers tell a different story. In a post-All-Star break matchup against the Charlotte Hornets, he poured in 35 points along with eight rebounds, four assists, and three blocks, demonstrating that his skills and stamina remain elite.

Such performances underscore the gap between public perception and on-court reality: physically, Durant shows few signs of slowing down.

Burner account buzz and Durant’s response

Off the floor, however, the spotlight has shifted to social media drama. During All-Star Weekend, unverified screenshots began circulating on platforms like X, allegedly linked to Durant.

The posts contained critical commentary about teammates, former coaches, and other NBA figures. While Durant has not confirmed authorship, the rumors reignited long-running discussions about his interactions with anonymous accounts online.

When reporters asked about the alleged burner account, Durant downplayed the controversy, calling it “Twitter nonsense” and emphasizing that his focus is on the remainder of the season. He insisted he would not allow speculation to distract him from preparation and team cohesion, underscoring his professional priorities.

On the court, Durant continues to play like one of the NBA’s most dominant figures; off the court, speculation and rumors swirl, which adds to a complex public perception that extends beyond his actual performance. It is a reminder that reputation can be as unpredictable as the game itself.
