The Saturday boxing card saw the return of Omar and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr to the ring after both fighters had a very difficult 2025. The venue was the Arena Potosi, with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, and even so, it did not register a full house. With the presence of the “Cesar del Boxeo”, the fans were anxious to see the sons of the legend in action, not because their performance was of quality, but because the great Mexican champion promised that if his sons won their respective fights, he would return to the ring for an exhibition fight.

To the delight of Mexican fans, Julio Cesar Jr. and Omar Chavez obtained comfortable victories against rivals that left much to be desired, where the fans who attended the Potosi complex “celebrated” the victories of the sons of the Caesar of Boxing. The “boys” won and now we are waiting to know if Julio Cesar Chavez, the great Mexican champion, will return to the ring, who has not yet given any statements in this regard.

After seven months of absence following his defeat to Jake Paul, Chavez Jr. faced Argentine boxer Angel Julian Sacco in the super middleweight division in a non-title fight. The aim of this fight was to prove that he has the ability to prolong a declining career and to sustain himself within the professional ranks.

At 39 years of age, “Julito” came in with a record of 57 wins (34 KOs), seven losses and one draw. Meanwhile, Omar Chavez faced Colombian Jose Miguel Torres in the same way without a title at stake. In his case, he is resuming his career after a year of inactivity after falling to Missael Rodriguez in a controversial encounter that took place just a year ago.

How did Julio Cesar Chavez’s sons fare in San Luis Potosi?

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr jumped into the ring with the intention of defeating not only his opponent, but also the recent past with his personal problems and with the law. However, Julian Sacco presented himself “overweight” and was exposed by his slow mobility in the ring. For this reason, “Julito” maintained constant attacks until he achieved victory in the fourth round by TKO where the Argentinean could not resist the series of punches thrown by Junior and the referee had no choice but to stop the fight and give the victory to the Mexican to add his 58th in his career.

However, the public in San Luis Potosi felt cheated in the fight of “The Chavez Dynasty”. The fight between Omar Chavez and Jose Miguel Torres, who also presented himself with no mobility and “overweight”, had a humiliating outcome. In a disappointing performance, the Mexican won by KO in the second round without much effort. The problem is that the blow connected by the Sinaloa native did not seem to carry enough force to send his opponent to the canvas, who placed his knee on the ground during the 10 seconds of the protection count to decree the victory of the youngest of the Chavez. With this, he keeps alive his aspirations for a rematch against Misael “Chino” Rodriguez. In any case, JC Chavez’s sons did their part so that their father can return to the ring in the coming months.

The wish that Julio Cesar Chavez has yet to fulfill

The promise of Julio Cesar Chavez to return to the ring in case his sons won at the Arena Potosi, is because he has yet to fulfill his greatest desire: to share the bill with his sons. In 2005, when he said goodbye to his professional career, Julio was 18 years old and Omar 15. The great Mexican champion felt that he could step into the ring with his sons, who had just begun their boxing careers. However, the timing was not right and that desire remained a nice intention.

However, “The Legend” is willing to put on the gloves again and star in an exhibition evening together with his sons in a “Trilogy with the Chavez”. His dream of returning to the ring is very palpable where the fans will be able to see him again connect his famous hooks to the liver. With the victories of Julio Jr. and Omar in San Luis Potosi, it only remains to be seen if Julio Cesar Chavez will be able to fulfill his word and get into the ring once again to share the card with his sons in front of a Mexican fans who have enormous affection, memory and respect for him.
