The transfer of Luka Doncic to the Lakers is still making waves. His departure from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Anthony Davis has come as a bombshell in the NBA universe. Experts, analysts, journalists and players have given their opinion on what could be the most important move in recent times.

The latest to talk about Luka Doncic’s departure was Kyrie Irving, the Slovenian’s former teammate at the Mavericks. The American player went to the mixed zone after the game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Dallas Mavericks, a game that ended with a new defeat for the Texan team by 118-116. Irving was the top scorer of the game, with 34 points in his personal account.

Shocked by Doncic’s departure

Once in front of the journalists, the point guard was asked about the departure of his former teammate and friend, Luka Doncic: “I’m really in shock. You just don’t imagine it, you get ready to go to sleep and then you find out news like this. It’s still a grieving process. I miss you, my brother.”

The No. 11 also spoke about the new situation for the Mavs: “We have to recognize that our little Slovenian president is no longer here, and we have to adjust. This is a business, I just have to welcome my new teammates with open arms.”

A message for Davis

The American also had a few words for his new teammate, Anthony Davis. “I’m excited. I’m at a part of my career where I don’t have many years left playing, I’m not in my early 20s anymore. Having AD helps, it’s motivating, he’s an MVP candidate and he has a strong mentality. I’ll help him as much as I can on and off the court,” he said.

Finally, he made an assessment of the current position of Dallas and the possibilities that the Texans have to fight for the championship: “We’re putting the pieces together and the tone is getting better. Just because everybody has questions, there’s a little bit of confusion. We’re talking, making sure we’re all right, putting the team first. We’re making sure we’re connecting and doing all the things to have the qualities of a championship team.”
