Indiana Fever fans fear punishment for one of their players for criticizing a referee, but they also supported her

The game between the Indiana Fever and the Los Angeles Sparks kept fans on the edge of their seats until the last second of play, and even after the game.

Towards the end, a play sparked controversy after the referee decided to grant the Sparks a timeout with 0.1 seconds remaining. This was heavily criticized by Indiana, who argued that the time had already expired.

However, the decision was upheld, although it did not help LA much, as they were unable to score in that tiny amount of time and the Fever held on to a narrow 76-75 victory.

This victory improved their record to 21-18 and they are in 6th place in the WNBA standings, fighting for a playoff spot.

After the game, one of Indiana’s stars, Sydney Colson, was unhappy with the situation. The 36-year-old point guard is injured after tearing her left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and will miss the rest of the season. She was not present at the game.

However, this did not prevent her from speaking out against what happened. On her official X account, Sydney wrote:

“He ran in TWICE tryna give the game away and that’s what had me weak [laughing emoji] would it have been THRICE had time allowed for it??” she wrote and then went on to explain: “(Thrice means three times. I see a lot of y’all who respond to me with IDIOTIC sh***t so I knew you didn’t know the definition of thrice since ur dumb).“

The reaction of Fever fans

In response to these words, fans believed that Colson could be fined by the league. Based on the experience of her teammates who were reprimanded for criticizing the referees, such as Sophie Cunningham and even Stephanie White, they joked about it and exploded with irony:

“This is going to cost you $500,” one of them commented.

“I got your fine Syd if the weakass W try to come after you,” wrote another user.

“Someone start a go fund me for these player fines lol. They’re gonna be loud,” posted a follower.

The truth is that it is unknown whether or not Syd will receive a fine for her statements, but one thing is certain: the support of the fans was stronger.
