The past eight days have been challenging for the Fever and their fans. The team is currently on a three-game losing streak following their May 24 defeat to the New York Liberty, which also included a disappointing loss to the Connecticut Sun-who had not won a game prior to that matchup. To make matters worse, the team has been dealing with injuries to three important guards: Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, and Sydney Colson.
Another week as she continues
It was previously announced that Clark would be sidelined for at least another week as she continues to recover from a left quad strain. However, the status of Cunningham and Colson-both of whom sustained lower-body injuries during the May 29 loss to the Sun-had remained unclear.
On June 1, head coach Stephanie White shared a more optimistic outlook during a media availability.
“We got good news from both of their MRIs-as good of news as you can get,” White said of Cunningham and Colson, according to the Fever’s YouTube channel. “So right now, it’s a day-to-day situation. We’re hopeful they’ll be able to return sooner rather than later, but it really depends on how they each progress through rehab and their return-to-play protocols.”
Been progressing very quickly
White also offered a specific update on Colson’s recovery: “Syd has been progressing very quickly. She’s going to get out there and get some shots up today, so we’ll see how she feels afterward… then we’ll reassess tomorrow.”
She further clarified that Colson is dealing with an upper leg injury, while Cunningham re-aggravated the ankle injury she sustained during the Fever’s final preseason game.
