Liverpool are reportedly ready to launch a historic offensive in the next summer transfer window with the aim of signing Jude Bellingham, currently a star at Real Madrid. According to reports from Spain, the Reds are willing to break the British transfer record to sign the England midfielder, in a move that would mark a new twist in their transfer policy.
The Anfield club already spent significantly in the last summer window, exceeding £400 million, in its attempt to support coach Arne Slot, who won the Premier League in his first season. It was a remarkable change in Liverpool’s historic strategy, opting for established talent such as Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.
An investment that has yet to pay off
Despite this heavy outlay, the results have not followed. Slot’s side are currently 14 points behind Arsenal, the Premier League leaders, and have drawn three consecutive matches in the league. There have even been rumors of a possible departure of the coach if the performance does not improve in the coming weeks.
Even so, the Liverpool board would have no intention of curbing investment. The specialist website Fichajes claims that the English club plans to make a “definitive leap” in the summer with the signing of Bellingham, whom they consider a player “capable of leading the midfield for the next decade”.
A record offer on the table
According to the report, Liverpool would be willing to offer €180 million (around £156 million) for the England international. The club’s hierarchy believes they need a generational leader who will raise the competitive level of the team in the long term, even if it involves an unprecedented operation in British football.
However, Real Madrid’s stance is clear. The club does not contemplate the departure of Bellingham and considers that his sporting value outweighs any economic proposal. In the offices of the Santiago Bernabeu, Florentino Perez and his entourage understand that the midfielder will mark an era and that no figure, even one of that calibre, would justify his sale.
A tense situation at Real Madrid
Liverpool’s move comes amid a pressure scenario at Real Madrid. The team is behind Barcelona in La Liga and has just lost to its arch-rival in the Spanish Super Cup, which has led to Alonso’s departure from the Merengue bench.
Recently consulted, Bellingham publicly backed the coach and called for internal unity, downplaying the crisis and insisting that the dressing room is 100% behind the coaching staff. He also denied any conflict with Vinicius Junior, pointing out that external problems are often exaggerated in difficult times.
A complex but symbolic operation
Liverpool are aware that convincing Real Madrid will be extremely difficult. Nevertheless, the club are confident that a record-breaking offer will at least force some internal reflection. Beyond its viability, the attempt reflects the Reds’ ambition to return to the top of European football with a signing that would shake up the entire market.
