The intense physical battle between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Washington Wizards spiraled out of control. What initially appeared to be a hard-fought, physical contest quickly escalated into a confrontation that required disciplinary action.

The players involved in the dispute were Ajay Mitchell of the Thunder and Justin Champagnie of the Wizards. Both were ejected from the game, and as expected, the league has already announced the punishment for their actions.

The game took place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, and the NBA revealed its decision on Sunday, March 22.

The punishment for Ajay Mitchell and Justin Champagnie

The league has been clear and firm regarding penalties for physical altercations on the court. As a result, both players have been suspended for one game, according to ESPN reporter Shams Charania.

From the perspective of Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault, the officials did not manage the situation properly, which led to his disagreement with their handling of the incident.

The original issue did not even begin between these two players. The situation unfolded incidentally, but quickly escalated into a confrontation between them. Ultimately, nothing positive came out of the clash.

Teammates and referees immediately stepped in to separate the players and prevent the situation from worsening, although the damage had already been done. Both players were ejected and now face a one-game suspension.

They were not the only ones penalized during the game. Cason Wallace of the Oklahoma City Thunder was also ejected, although he did not receive any further disciplinary action from the league.

For the Thunder, the game concluded with a 132-11 victory over the Wizards.
