The 23rd edition of the men’s China Open tournament was claimed by Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz after a frenetic week in Beijing. The total prize money of the tournament is 12,675,775 dollars. Out of this amount, 3,720,165 dollars are distributed by the ATP, 2.37% more than last year. The WTA, meanwhile, contributes 8,955,610 dollars, 10.19% more than in 2023.
In the men’s circuit, Jannik Sinner was defending his crown against his kryptonite, Carlos Alcaraz, after a meteoric rise over the last year that had seen him reach the world number one spot. Now, one year later, it is the Spaniard who has won the tournament and, with it, a cheque for 622,668 euros.
Meanwhile, in the women’s circuit Iga Swiatek beat Liudmilla Samsonova to return to number one, after Aryna Sabalenja topped the pile for a few months. However, the Pole, who lost in the quarterfinals of the last major this season, returned to form in Beijing.
In terms of prize money, the ATP tournament champion and runner-up will receive 2.4% more than last year. On the other hand, the champion and runner-up will see a 16.92% reduction compared to last year’s edition.
