Rory McIlroy stepped firmly into legendary territory this Sunday at the The Masters Tournament, defending his title and achieving a feat previously only accomplished by Tiger Woods in the modern era: back-to-back Masters wins and true dominance at Augusta.
McIlroy matches Tiger Woods with back-to-back Masters dominance
The Northern Irishman built his victory on the most iconic stretch of the course, Amen Corner, where he carded two key birdies that broke a final round marked by a tight leaderboard. The decisive blow came on the 12th hole, where he took a courageous line over Rae’s Creek, sticking his ball close for a birdie.
From that point on, McIlroy stepped on the gas. A massive 350-yard drive on the par-5 13th opened the door for another birdie, granting him a three-shot lead and full control of the tournament.
Despite some late tension-including an erratic tee shot on the 18th-he managed the pressure to sign for a 71 (-1), securing the win by a single stroke.
With this victory, McIlroy not only defended his Green Jacket but also matched an achievement reserved for a select few: winning the Masters in consecutive years, a milestone that places him alongside Woods in the conversation of the greatest golfers to ever play at the Augusta National Golf Club.
