The Seattle Seahawks are not a team with a long history in the Super Bowl, but they have become one of the most recognizable franchises in the NFL in recent decades. Their appearances in the Super Bowl, although few, have left unforgettable moments for fans.

The history of the Seahawks in the NFL

Founded in 1976, the Seattle Seahawks are one of the NFL’s younger franchises. During their early years, the team had inconsistent playoff appearances and went a long time without being a contender. However, as the decades went by, Seattle managed to consolidate a competitive identity, driven by an intense fan base and a stadium famous for being one of the loudest in the league, Lumen Field.

The real leap to the elite came in the 21st century, when the Seahawks began to compete consistently and appear in the most important stages of the NFL.

The Seattle Seahawks have won one Super Bowl

So far, the Seahawks have played in three Super Bowls and won one. MARCA takes a brief look at each of their appearances:

Super Bowl XL (2006)

Seattle’s first Super Bowl appearance came in the 2005 season. The team, led by Mike Holmgren, fell 21-10 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite the offensive leadership of Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander, the Seahawks failed to prevail and fell short of their first title.

Super Bowl XLVIII (2014)

Revenge came in a big way. In 2014, the Seahawks dominated the Denver Broncos from start to finish, winning by a resounding 43-8. This game marked the high point in the team’s history.

The legendary Legion of Boom, with names like Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Bobby Wagner and Earl Thomas, was key to the conquest. On offense, Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch led a team that left its mark on the NFL.

Super Bowl XLIX (2015)

A year later, Seattle returned to the Super Bowl, this time against the New England Patriots. The game ended 28-24 in favor of the Patriots and was marked by one of the most memorable plays in NFL history: Malcolm Butler’s interception at the 1-yard line, following a pass from Russell Wilson. A decision that still generates debate among fans.

Seattle’s Return to the Super Bowl in 2026

Now the Seahawks return to the Super Bowl and will again face the New England Patriots, with the opportunity to seek revenge and win their second NFL title. This new appearance reaffirms Seattle as a competitive franchise with a better future projection.
