How does Pittsburgh Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger feel about Aaron Rodgers playing in his old spot?

Ben Roethlisberger, the legendary former quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers, is bullish on his old team’s offensive outlook heading into the 2025 season.

Speaking on his Footbahlin podcast, the two-time Super Bowl champion voiced strong confidence in the Steelers‘ chances to make a statement.

“They’ve got a real, legit shot to be something special on offense,” Roethlisberger said, noting that the pieces are finally falling into place for Pittsburgh to turn the page.

A New Era Begins in Pittsburgh

The Steelers have undergone a dramatic offensive transformation in the offseason.

After moving on from the underwhelming quarterback duo of Justin Fields and Russell Wilson-as well as parting ways with wide receiver George Pickens-head coach Mike Tomlin and the front office turned heads by signing Aaron Rodgers.

The 41-year-old quarterback, a four-time NFL MVP, joins Pittsburgh for what could be his final act in a storied career.

Despite recent setbacks with the New York Jets, including an Achilles injury and a disappointing 5-12 finish last season, Rodgers is being counted on to bring stability-and star power-to the Steelers‘ offense.

Joining him is DK Metcalf, the explosive wide receiver acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Seahawks.

With his rare combination of size, speed, and physicality, Metcalf gives Rodgers a true No. 1 target and brings new firepower to a unit that has lacked identity in recent years.

But this isn’t just about flash. The Steelers also made critical moves in the trenches. With Broderick Jones shifting to left tackle and Troy Fautanu returning to form, the offensive line looks better prepared to protect its aging but battle-tested signal caller.

And on the defensive side, Pittsburgh isn’t letting up. The team recently locked in T.J. Watt with a record-setting extension, reportedly worth $123 million over three years.

As one of the most dominant defenders in football, Watt’s presence keeps the Steelers defense among the league’s elite-and gives the offense breathing room to grow.

Roethlisberger, who retired in 2022 after throwing 418 touchdown passes over an 18-year career in Pittsburgh, knows what it takes to win in that city.

He’s previously praised Rodgers‘ football IQ and leadership-and believes the veteran QB is poised for a bounce-back season now that he’s further removed from last year’s Achilles tear.

“When you’re coming back from something like that, your head can be filled with doubts,” Roethlisberger said.

“But that hesitation fades. I think you’ll see a sharper, more confident Aaron Rodgers this year.”

With a Hall of Fame quarterback at the helm, a newly upgraded receiving corps, and one of the league’s most fearsome pass rushers locked in long-term, Pittsburgh‘s offense finally has the pieces to contend.

Now it’s up to Tomlin, Rodgers, and company to convert potential into production-and maybe, just maybe, bring the Lombardi Trophy back to the Steel City.
