Hollywood actor tells funny anecdote he shared with Phil Mickelson during a tournament round

Phil Mickelson was part of a rather comical moment alongside a Hollywood star. The golfer and actor were in a round of the LIV Golf Tournament in Chicago in 2023, which at the time brought the spotlight to them, as it’s not every day you see a movie star competing with a sports legend.

Before the moment that became an anecdote, it’s important to note that Phil Mickelson has a peculiar habit of tipping his hat after a big shot, which often turns out to be quite amusing. In 2019, for example, after sinking a putt in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Mickelson’s celebration turned comical when he tried to tip his hat to greet the crowd, only to realize he was wearing a wool hat.

The Hollywood actor who shared a moment with Phil Mickelson:

The story originates from a recent interview with comedian Andrew Santino, who shared the course with Mickelson at LIV Golf Chicago 2023. “I once said to him, ‘Hey, Lefty, how about you give me some advice?’ And he said, ‘Well, you’re positioned wrong. You look silly.’ And everyone laughed,” he recounted.

Mickelson then advised him to put more weight on his front foot. Santino did exactly that. But there’s a hilarious twist, as Santino continues: “I hit it about eight feet, and people applauded. And then he literally turned around and took off his hat, like they couldn’t believe me.”

Titles won by Phil Mickelson:

Phil Mickelson has won six Major titles in his professional golf career. These include three Masters (2004, 2006, 2010), two PGA Championships (2005, 2021), and one British Open (2013). In addition to these six major titles, Mickelson has won 44 PGA Tour tournaments.

These include all three Masters, the PGA Championship, and the British Open. He has also been a key player in the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup, participating on multiple occasions. Although he has enjoyed great success, he has never won the US Open, finishing runner-up six times.
