High expectations for Jaxson Dart in his first year with the Giants, as Shedeur Sanders fights to remain on the Cleveland Browns’ roster

The New York Giants are optimistic about their future with rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, who joins the team aiming to adapt to the NFL‘s highest level alongside two veteran players, one a Super Bowl champion. He’ll also work under a former Coach of the Year who helped develop the league’s current MVP.

If everything goes according to plan, time will vindicate the Giants‘ decision to draft the Ole Miss standout, serving as the primary reason they bypassed Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Jaxson Dart’s Scenarios for His First NFL Season

Sometimes, things don’t unfold as expected, and for Jaxson Dart, his NFL journey could be shaped by the schedule’s challenges. He might even assume the starting role sooner than anticipated.

The Giants’ tough opening slate of games in the 2025 NFL season could lead to a string of losses, prompting the coaching staff to bench Russell Wilson in favor of Dart. This scenario worries many Giants fans.

Against this backdrop, CBS Sports’ NFL Draft analyst Chris Trapasso has outlined the best- and worst-case scenarios for Dart’s rookie season.

In the best-case scenario, Trapasso projects Dart completing 65% of his passes, averaging 7.2 yards per attempt, throwing for 2,520 yards, 16 touchdowns, seven interceptions, taking 28 sacks, and posting a 93.2 passer rating.

In the worst-case scenario, he envisions 59% completion, 6.2 yards per attempt, 1,820 yards, eight touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 36 sacks, and a 69.9 passer rating.

This isn’t a dire warning for Jaxson Dart, as many rookie quarterbacks have posted modest numbers in their debut seasons before enjoying successful careers-a prospect that could inspire players like Dart and Shedeur Sanders, both drawing significant attention heading into the upcoming season.

The New York Giants are confident they can develop Jaxson Dart in the coming years, and their eagerness to select him in the first round at the 25th overall pick speaks volumes. Optimism surrounds the player he’s shown himself to be since joining team workouts.

At Ole Miss, Dart completed 69.3% of his passes for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2024, leading the team to its second consecutive season with over 10 wins.

However, it’s no secret that the NFL is an entirely different beast. We’ll have to wait and see if Dart lives up to his potential or remains just a promising talent for a Giants team eager to return to competitiveness in the league.
