He’s gone, but Daniel Jones left a double-edged smile for Jaxson Dart, who has had a tough time with the New York Giants

A new era has begun at the quarterback position for the New York Giants, although many things remain the same in a franchise that has been dysfunctional for the last 10 years or more. One of the biggest controversies of the franchise’s most recent era was the case of Daniel Jones, who was a first-round pick by the team in 2019.

Daniel Jones had his ups and downs, but in the final year of his contract in 2022, he had the best season of his career and led the New York Giants to the playoffs. In the Wild Card game, he secured a win against the Minnesota Vikings. Thanks to that performance, he earned the team’s trust and signed a four-year, $160 million contract.

However, nothing was the same after that. It was a complete disaster. In 2023, he tore his ligaments, and in 2024, after poor performances, he ended up being released. Now, the Giants are moving forward with Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and rookie Jaxson Dart, as new options to lead the offense.

Daniel Jones is close to becoming the Colts’ starting quarterback

While rookie Jaxson Dart had a rough time during OTAs and minicamp with the Giants-throwing many interceptions-Daniel Jones is standing out in the Colts’ camp and seems on track to take over the starting role.

The Colts‘ “starter on paper” is Anthony Richardson, but he’s been sidelined from camp with a right shoulder injury. In the meantime, Jones has taken advantage of his first-team reps and has impressed. This is what analyst Jake Arthur wrote:

“Richardson would need to look spectacular in camp-especially during joint practices and the preseason-to win the job, or Jones would have to completely lose control of the lead. So far, based on what the media has seen, Jones has looked pretty solid. It’s hard to imagine he’s not the favorite right now,” wrote Jake Arthur.

Jones has completely won over Colts head coach Shane Steichen:

“He’s been doing a fantastic job. A very smart football player. He picked up the offense quickly and has been making excellent decisions throughout OTAs. Obviously, we want that to carry over into training camp, but he’s done a really good job. He commands the huddle well. He’s the ultimate professional.”

So, after being released by the New York Giants, Daniel Jones could quickly become the starter on a team that might challenge the Houston Texans for the AFC South title.
