The NBA is making a highly anticipated return to NBC this fall, and one of the sport’s most iconic figures will be joining the ride.

Michael Jordan, widely regarded as the greatest basketball player of all time, will be part of NBC Sports’ NBA coverage as a “special contributor.”

Michael Jordan gives NBC Sports a massive boost

The announcement was made during NBCUniversal’s Upfront presentation in New York City, marking another chapter in Jordan’s storied relationship with the network.

NBC was the NBA’s broadcast home from 1990 to 2002, an era that perfectly overlapped with Jordan’s dominance on the court.

Now, more than two decades later, the six-time NBA champion is stepping into a new role to support the network’s long-awaited return.

NBC Sports President Rick Cordella described the move as a proud moment for the company, emphasizing Jordan’s unmatched legacy.

“I am so excited to see the NBA back on NBC,”Jordan said in a statement.

“The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I’m excited about being a special contributor to the project. I’m looking forward to seeing you all when the NBA on NBC launches this October.”

While NBC has yet to detail Jordan’s specific role, the network confirmed he will contribute in a unique capacity to the coverage, which begins with the 2025-26 season under a new 11-year broadcasting deal.

NBC’s programming slate includes national Monday and Tuesday night games on Peacock and NBC respectively, along with a new “Sunday Night Basketball” series.

Jordan joins a growing team of former NBA players tapped for the broadcast lineup, including Jamal Crawford and Reggie Miller as game analysts and Carmelo Anthony as a studio contributor.

The return of the classic “Roundball Rock” theme song and the AI-generated voice of late NBC narrator Jim Fagan are further designed to recapture the nostalgic magic of 1990s NBA coverage.

From his championship pedigree with the Bulls to his experience in team ownership and beyond, Jordan brings decades of basketball insight to NBC’s new era.

Whether breaking down plays, offering perspective, or simply lending his presence, his involvement is expected to deepen the experience for NBA fans eager for the league’s revival on a familiar stage.

NBC’s NBA relaunch is set to begin in October, and with Jordan in the mix, anticipation is only growing.
