Here’s the Raiders’ new plan to try to trade for Maxx Crosby

Las Vegas Raiders appear to be reshaping their strategy regarding Maxx Crosby, with a delayed trade timeline emerging as a calculated approach, one that could redefine how interested teams engage in negotiations over the coming months.

Rather than moving Maxx Crosby immediately, the organization is now believed to be considering a midseason window, allowing the standout edge rusher to return, perform at a high level, and rebuild momentum before any serious trade discussions advance.

This approach, outlined by Albert Breer, suggests that showcasing Crosby’s on-field impact again could shift perception, making it easier for decision-makers to justify a deal internally while also maximizing his external market value.

Breer explained, “If he’s going to be traded, I think it’s going to have to come after Maxx Crosby gets back on the field and plays really well,” Breer told Sports Illustrated. “So people will forget about everything that just happened.

“That way, it becomes a little easier when it comes to managing your owners and your fan base. It also makes it easier to go out and trade for him again.”

For teams like the New England Patriots, this shift introduces complications, as any potential acquisition would likely come halfway through the season, limiting Crosby’s immediate impact on defensive performance.

New England has already made adjustments to its pass rush, but those moves appear more like replacements than upgrades, leaving room for a player of Crosby’s caliber to significantly elevate the unit if a deal eventually materializes.

Statistically, Crosby remains one of the league’s most consistent defensive forces, regularly producing double-digit sack totals while contributing heavily against the run, making him an attractive target despite the uncertainty surrounding his availability.

A.J. Brown to the Patriots: What is the latest?

While Crosby’s situation develops, the Patriots are also linked to another high-profile name, with A.J. Brown continuing to surface in trade speculation tied to the team’s offensive ambitions.

Recent offseason workouts involving Kevin Byard have intensified discussion, particularly due to his prior connections with both Brown and head coach Mike Vrabel, creating a network of familiarity that fuels ongoing rumors.

Financial considerations remain central to any potential deal, as timing could significantly alter the salary cap implications, making a post-June transaction far more viable for the Philadelphia Eagles.

“The Patriots and Eagles are engaged in a staring contest,” said MassLive’s Karen Guregian. “While the expectation is they’ll eventually come to terms on a deal, whether it’s in the coming weeks, or after June 1, which is preferred by the Eagles for monetary reasons, it’s also possible another team will swoop in.”

For New England, the appeal is clear, as Brown’s production and consistency would immediately strengthen the offense, complementing any defensive improvements that could come from a future Crosby acquisition.

Ultimately, the Raiders’ evolving plan with Crosby reflects a broader league dynamic, where timing, performance, and financial strategy intersect, leaving teams like the Patriots balancing patience with urgency in pursuit of elite talent.
