Hailee Steinfeld steps back from Instagram spotlight with heartfelt message on connection

Hailee Steinfeld has never been one to chase clout, even with a Hollywood resume and a famous fiancé in NFL star Josh Allen.

While her relationship with the Buffalo Bills quarterback often draws attention, the 27-year-old actress continues to build her own brand and legacy-most recently through Beau Society, a personal project that’s become her emotional anchor away from the red carpet.

Launched in 2024, Beau Society was Steinfeld‘s answer to the curated chaos of social media.

“I created it because I wanted a way to communicate and connect with people who have been following me since the very beginning, sort of away from social media,” she wrote at the time. And now, a year later, she’s doubling down on that sentiment.

In her latest newsletter update, Steinfeld shared a vulnerable truth about her own online habits, despite having over 20 million followers on Instagram.

“I’ve never been great about Instagram,” Steinfeld confessed. “I use it to share my work projects, not as a way to connect with people I love. For connection, it’s a dinner at a deli downtown (where I order the matzo ball soup), a long phone call, or a quick voice note.”

Steinfeld champions offline connection in an online world

It’s a sentiment that’s resonated deeply with fans. With so much of celebrity life consumed through filtered selfies and polished reels, Steinfeld‘s words serve as a breath of fresh air.

She added, “Of course, I connect with all of you here in this newsletter, and I’m grateful for that. But when I’m in survival mode or feeling sensitive, I do my best to stay off social media altogether.”

The singer and actress emphasized how harmful endless scrolling can be during emotionally tough periods. “I know myself, and in those moments of craziness, the last thing I need to see is a friend’s trip to Cannes,” she wrote. “I love you and can’t wait to hear about it… in person.”

It’s a message that strikes a chord-especially in a time where ‘doomscrolling’ is practically a daily ritual. Steinfeld encourages a return to slower, more meaningful forms of connection: a phone call, a walk, or simply time spent together.

But just because she’s avoiding the glare of social media doesn’t mean she’s out of the spotlight. Her latest film, Sinners, is currently dominating the box office.

Directed by Ryan Coogler and featuring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, the film has raked in over $300 million since its April 18 release, making it one of the top-performing movies of the year.

“This character challenged me in ways I’ve never been challenged,” Steinfeld said of her role in the film, which also inspired her to explore her own family history. “I think it affected all of us so personally and so deeply.”

With Sinners earning Oscar buzz and Beau Society growing as a heartfelt hub for fans, Hailee Steinfeld is reminding the world that success isn’t just about screen time-it’s about real time, too.
