When FOX Sports stunned the sports world with its $375 million investment in Tom Brady, many fans were left wondering what’s next for Greg Olsen, who found himself quietly bumped down the ladder.
After calling a Super Bowl and winning fans with his authenticity and insight, Olsen was demoted to regional broadcasts to make room for Brady.
Fast-forward to Super Bowl LIX, and Brady was at the mic for FOX’s biggest broadcast of the year, calling the Chiefs-Eagles matchup.
While his presence generated major buzz, reviews were mixed, and his performance left some questioning whether Olsen had been replaced too soon. But despite the shakeup, Greg Olsen has handled the situation with nothing but class.
From demotion to beach football
In a recent Instagram story shared by Brady himself, there was no hint of rivalry or resentment. Instead, there was fun, friendship, and football on a sunny Miami beach.
Brady posted a boomerang clip tossing a football with his longtime friends Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, along with none other than Greg Olsen. The caption was pure TB12: light-hearted, teasing, and affectionate.
“@gronk supervising, @edelman11 playing horrible defense, @gregolsen88 making it look easy,” Brady wrote.
The post showed that Olsen, even after being demoted, is still in the circle. Brady even gave a nod to FOX Sports in the caption, suggesting no bad blood between him and his broadcasting colleague. It was the kind of public gesture that put rumors of tension to rest.
And for his part, Olsen has taken the high road every step of the way. In a previous interview, he opened up about the disappointment of losing his role as FOX’s lead analyst.
“I’ll be honest, it’s hard sitting home on the couch watching the games,” he said. “You’re sitting there and you’re living and dying with every broadcast… ‘What would you have said?’ and ‘What would you have done?. My goal getting into this was to not just call regional 1 o’clock games and just be happy to be there… To not do it anymore is hard. It’s not ideal.”
