Green Bay Packers eye Anthony Richardson in potential blockbuster trade deal

The 2026 NFL offseason is shaping up to be one of the most compelling in recent memory, particularly at the quarterback position.

Anthony Richardson, the former No. 4 overall pick, is expected to be on the move after three seasons in Indianapolis that failed to meet expectations.

The Colts have decided to part ways with Richardson, turning their attention to Daniel Jones as the team’s long-term starter. This development opens the door for Richardson to find a fresh start elsewhere, offering a high-upside opportunity for the right team.

When Richardson entered the NFL, he was widely regarded as a dual-threat talent with rare athleticism, drawing comparisons to Lamar Jackson.

Scouts admired his ability to make plays both with his arm and on the ground, creating excitement around his potential as a franchise quarterback.

However, a combination of injuries, inconsistent performances, and difficulty adjusting to professional defenses prevented him from fully realizing that potential.

Despite flashes of brilliance, Richardson struggled to provide the consistent production necessary to cement his role in Indianapolis, leaving the Colts ready to move in a different direction.

Packers considered among possible destinations

One franchise that has quietly emerged in trade discussions is the Green Bay Packers. Reports from ESPN‘s Stephen Holder suggest that while no trade is imminent, Green Bay could be a team to watch as discussions progress.

The Packers recently lost Malik Willis in free agency, creating a clear need for depth at quarterback.

Richardson, despite his uneven track record, represents a high-upside reclamation project-someone who could develop into a starter with the right coaching and system.

For the Packers, the move could be a low-risk, potentially high-reward decision. Head coach Matt LaFleur has a history of developing quarterbacks, and pairing Richardson with a supportive system and mentorship from Jordan Love could help unlock his raw talent.

While his current trade value is not at the level of a premier NFL asset, sources suggest he might fetch a mid-to-late draft pick, the potential payoff could be substantial if Richardson realizes his ceiling.

Still, the path forward for both sides is uncertain. Richardson will need time to adapt to a new playbook and recover confidence after an uneven tenure in Indianapolis.

For Green Bay, the key will be balancing patience with the need for production, ensuring that the young quarterback can grow without immediate pressure.

If executed properly, this trade could represent one of the offseason’s more intriguing moves, offering both Richardson and the Packers an opportunity to reshape their futures.

As the NFL offseason unfolds and the trade market heats up, all eyes will be on how teams handle quarterback depth and potential breakout candidates.
