The debate over the NFL MVP has been ignited after the Dallas Cowboys’ 44-30 loss to the Detroit Lions, a result that has generated strong criticism directed at their quarterback, Dak Prescott.

Former Lions quarterback and analyst Dan Orlovsky was blunt in his remarks on Friday’s episode of ESPN’s “Get Up,” sentencing Prescott’s candidacy after his poor performance in the last game.

This performance was particularly disappointing for Prescott, who completed 31 of 47 passes for 376 yards and just one touchdown, throwing two interceptions and being sacked a total of five times.

Orlovsky noted that Prescott’s drop in the race opens up space for Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love to establish himself as a serious candidate.

“Jordan Love has the opportunity to largely start to get into it. I think there’s a couple of guys ahead of him,” Orlovsky said, highlighting Love’s recent performance.

“The difference in Jordan Love recently is that he’s putting the ball where he wants against coverage, and if he continues to do that against Chicago, I don’t think this game is close,” added the now television analyst.

The defeat not only ended the Cowboys’ three-game winning streak (leaving them with a 6-6-1 record, second in the NFC East behind the Philadelphia Eagles), but also generated a message of frustration from Prescott.

In the post-game press conference, the quarterback expressed the team’s rage and hope to use it as motivation for the next game against the Minnesota Vikings.

“The guys are very pissed off right now. I don’t think this is a time to deflate, like we’re tied up, we’re done. No. Absolutely not. I think they’re going to have a team that’s pissed off. I hope it bothers people the right way and we use it as fuel,” Prescott said.
