David Benavidez defeated David Morrell by unanimous decision and now he is going for the 175-pound division, where he is looking to become world champion.

The Mexican Monster defeated the Cuban with two scorecards of 115-111 and a more uneven one of 118-108, which generates some controversy due to the contrast with the other two judges.

Benavidez: “I’m not thinking about Canelo, I already feel like a world champion”

After acknowledging David Morrell for the good fight, but after denying the possibility of a rematch because “why if I won all the rounds”, Red Flag made it clear that Saul Alvarez is not on his mind.

“I’m not thinking about Canelo anymore, I’m thinking about the best in my weight class. I’m proud, a lot of fans supported me, I already feel like a world champion. I want to keep beating the best in my weight class.”

“Fight the best in this weight and win the belts, win the titles,” he told ESPN.

Benavidez is hoping to face the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol in the rematch on February 22, after Beterbiev won in October 2024. The winner will be the undisputed 175-pound champion.
